The Gospel is for Christians

February 28th, 2010

The great theologian B. B. Warfield on why the gospel is needed for believers:
There is nothing in us or done by us, at any stage of our earthly development, because of which we are acceptable to God. We must always be accepted for Christ’s sake, or we cannot ever be accepted at all. This is not true of us only when we believe. It is just as true after we have believed. It will continue to be true as long as we live. Our need of Christ does not cease with our believing; nor does the nature of our relation to Him or to God through Him ever alter, no matter what our attainments in Christian graces or our achievements in behavior may be. It is always on His “blood and righteousness” alone that we can rest.

The role of women in the local church

February 17th, 2010

Angus MacLeay Vicar of St Nicholas Church Sevenoaks Kent made the inside pages of the Mail and the Mirror on Saturday 13 February for daring to suggest that the Bible taught ‘wives should submit to their husbands in everything’. See the leaflet that caused the controversy on the pastor’s blog page. (For the record the offending leaflet referred to in both newspapers was written by Carrie Sandom the female curate at St Andrews the Great Cambridge!). Both Angus and Carrie are old friends of our Pastor John Edmonds.

Revival came and thousands from this animistic people were saved and baptized. Now 40% Christian, the Karen people are suffering and they need our prayers.

“He picks up a mug of tea and a glass of water and holds them out in front of him. “This is the tea, all dirty and horrible, this is me, yeah? That’s Jesus,” he says, motioning to the water. “Pure. He’s taken that filth upon himself and before God he says, ‘Punish me for it’. He’s been punished and look what he’s given me. That perfect goodness in the eyes of God. He’s declared me innocent.”

The Equality Bill

January 25th, 2010

On Monday 25 January an amazing answer to prayer took place in our House of Lords. Peers voted in favour of Baroness Caithness’ amendment and rejected the government’s amendment and other proposals which would have severely limited the freedoms of Christian and other faith organisations in the appointment of staff.

On the Pastors Blog you can find the text of a statement issued on 22 January 2010 by the pastors or leaders of 255 FIEC churches including our own pastor John Edmonds
